What Does a Chiropractor Treat & What Schooling Does a Chiropractor Attend

Have you been experiencing a dull headache recently and on a regular basis? If you have been a victim of such aches and pains, then you might need to visit a Chiropractor. In the real world, a Chiropractor is a health care professional who identifies and treats neuromuscular disorders without the use of either surgery or drugs.
Chiropractic Therapy focuses on understanding the relationship that exists between the spine and the central nervous system. Whenever there is an alteration in this relationship, it affects an individual’s happiness level and increases his or her stress levels.
A Chiropractor will use his or her hands to work on and control your body, helping to ease muscular tension. To enhance the effectiveness of the process, a Chiropractor may choose to incorporate the use of acupressure and shiatsu massage methods.

Types of Chiropractors

There are two types of Chiropractors; straights and mixers. Straights believe that Chiropractic Therapy can heal up to 95% of diseases. On the other hand, Mixers are quite specific. They believe that Chiropractic therapy can only help with back and neck problems. Mixers are considered to be the real deal, while straights don’t always use empirically proven treatments.

Conditions Treated by Chiropractors

A Chiropractor often helps those suffering from any of the following problems:

  • Lower back and leg pain (sciatica)
  • Neck pain
  • Arthritic pain
  • Car accident injuries
  • Persistent headache
  • Repetitive strain

Chiropractors, however, are not limited to treating the neuromusculoskeletal disorders and the nervous system. They are also known to refer patients who need treatment on their lower backs to medical doctors and other health practitioners.

Chiropractor Education Requirements

To qualify to practice this art, prospective students need to start by getting a high school degree. After that, they need to get either an undergraduate or a bachelor’s degree. With this degree, they will qualify to enroll in a chiropractic school. Here, they will get a chance to study for a doctor’s degree in chiropractic care.
To enroll in chiropractic school, there are several requirements, including a bachelor’s degree and a minimum g.p.a.  Make sure to check out the schools you’re interested in to see their individual requirements.

Chiropractic School Duration

Chiropractic school takes four years to complete. This, however, does not factor in the time taken to study for an undergraduate or a graduate degree. If this time were to be factored in, it would take a student around six to eight years to complete a Chiropractic course.

Licensing Requirements

Before a Chiropractor is allowed to practice, he or she needs to be certified by the state. The requirements tend to vary from state to state, therefore it would be best to research your state’s requirements.
What is common in most states is recognition of any exam that is given by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. These four-part exams enable students to be in a position of being accepted as practicing Chiropractors in most states in the US.
